Our goal is to reach out to African villages in order to help them drink clean water. We designed a water purifier straw, easy to make and very accessible.
Materials we used while making the straws were:
1 large plastic bag
1 straw
1 coffee filter
1 pipe cleaner
3 pills of activated charcoal
About our product :
Our straw is very simple and easy to make. The carbon kills all the bacteria from the dirty water. Our product is very inexpensive and can make a huge difference! Dirty water is a big issue in Africa, it causing many diseases. By having this product waterborne disease rates will go down.
Costs of our product:
Our product is very inexpensive, each straw costing 46 cents. There are 100 people per village, in order for everyone to get a straw it would cost $46. The cost was under our budget of $100!
Reflection:
This was by far my favorite and most productive project! I loved working with my partner and making a great project. I worked really hard this project and thought I put a lot of effort. I had so much fun building our straws. I thought this being our last project I put a lot more effort and focus. I still need to work on staying more focused, on task, and staying with my group. The creative engineering project has been my favorite project both times through and I'm so happy to have done it again twice.
