For the hybrid car project, the focus of the project was to design and build an alternate energy car that used no gasoline or electricity. You could build your car out of anything as long as it could carry 250 grams of weight and travel 5 meters.
Concepts
Power – rate of work
Kinetic Energy – energy due to motion
Thermal Energy – energy from heatSpring Constant – measure of how easily a spring is compressed and expendedSpring Potential Energy – Energy stored by the compression or expansion of a spring
Our group agreed on making our car powered by a rubber band. We wrapped the rubber band around the back axle. Tension is created while wrapping the band around the axle, that which causes the car to move forward.
REFLECTION
This was by far my favorite group! We all worked very well together andwere very productive on all our work days. Our team struggled greatly throughout the majority of the project. We were constantly switching and adding new parts to the car. First, our group decided to make our car out of cardboard, which wasn’t the best choice. It turned out that the car would not work at all. Then we pretty much built the same car but with stronger and more durable materials and it turned out being a great success. The center piece we changed to wood, and extended it; then we changed the wheels to CDs. We spent lots of time on the car and after lots of trial and error we got it right where we needed it at 5 meters.
We struggled a lot during our project and spent a good amount of time on it. A few things I noticed is I need to improve on this project was taking more of a leadership role and not leaving my group for another. I need to work on being more into all the discussions and putting in all my effort.
A few things I thought I did well were contributing my ideas. I was way more engaged in this project than I have been in any other. I came up with lots of ideas that turned out to be what we needed and improved our project. I stayed on task and for the most part being as involved as I could. This project taught me so much about myself and how your learn from you mistakes.
